Wondering if there's anywhere along the trail to rent bikes or somewhere close by

Unfortunately there are no bike rental places near the trail.

Here are the bike rentals in STL: http://www.trailnet.org/bikerentals.php
Alpine Shop is a short ride from the western end of the trail (~1 mile). Also you might call Bicycles of Kirkwood, ?207 North Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood, MO 63122-4029(314) 821-3460?. They are also within a mile of the trail but not sure if they rent bikes.
