Delaware Canal Trail

This website includes information for both the Delaware Canal (Easton to Bristol) and the D&L Canal (Allentown to Easton). Technically they are two separate trails, but they connect end-to-end in Easton so it's easy for a cyclist to think of them as a single 76 mile route. Our website handles this as a single route, to make your trip planning easier.

The D&L portion of the route runs for 16 miles alongside the Lehigh River. When the Lehigh flows into the Delaware River at Easton, the route becomes the Delaware Canal.

For approximately 32 miles, the Delaware Canal Towpath runs parallel with the D&R Canal Trail along the Delaware River, with the Delaware Canal Towpath on the Pennsylvania (west) side of the river, and the D&R Canal Towpath on the New Jersey (east) side of the river. There are many points where you can cross the river to switch between these two routes.

Near Trenton/Morrisville the two paths diverge, with the Delaware Canal heading south to Bristol, and the D&R heading northeast to New Brunswick.

Be sure to use our D&R Canal website if you want to incorporate the D&R into your trip.
